When Should a Countertop Be Repaired or Replaced?

A practical framework for deciding between an on site repair and a full surface replacement.

Start with the cause

A single impact chip is a repair candidate. Damage caused by movement, poor support or a failed seam usually returns unless the underlying issue is corrected.

Consider how much of the surface is affected

Isolated damage in one section is different from multiple issues spread across a run. When the surface has been repaired several times already, replacement is often the more economical path.

Factor in your plans for the room

If cabinets, sink or layout are changing within the year, replacement scheduled with that work avoids paying twice. If nothing else is changing, repair may keep the surface serviceable for years.

Be realistic about matching

Natural stone varies from slab to slab. Replacing one section of an older granite or marble installation rarely produces an exact match, and we will say so before starting.

Get an assessment before deciding

We do not quote repair or replacement from a description alone. Send photos, and we will tell you whether an on site look is warranted.
